Perhaps
the safest truth
is finally being caught by a pair of gentle eyes

The way a fish discovers it was planted in water
a tick finds itself nestled on the back of an ox
a bird is brushed into flight by an entire forest
the moon rests its head on a cloud
and the bricks of a city settle into the hurried footsteps of passersby

No road overgrown with wild grass
was ever walked in vain
Through countless meetings and partings
we shed pieces of you, of me, of them
then patch together a self that is always losing and becoming

All those
bent and broken
shimmering and drowning
fragments of time
have already been pieced into
home

"Hey!"
The child inside
the one from long ago
is waving
