On 3 March 2023 (the evening of 2 March in New York), The Memes by 6529 released card 74, The Hamily WAGMI, by Che-Yu Wu: 690 editions at 0.06529 ETH each. The card holds eighty square-headed robots that The Hamily community calls hams, set in an eight-by-ten grid that rises and falls with a wave running across it; when the mouse comes near they grow, shake together and blow bubbles of W, A, G, M and I, while THE HAMILY and WAGMI run around the border.

The characters come from his daily sketch of 28 March 2021, 210328 Strange Robots. That code was taken to Art Blocks and remade as sail-o-bots, and The Hamily community grew out of what followed; this card is the third chapter of the same line, and the first two are on the Strange Robots page. The card’s code keeps the original robots and adds mouths, glasses, shadows and speech bubbles, with the random seed fixed, so every one of the 690 editions opens on the same crowd of hams.

Eighty hams

The card’s code runs to 470 lines and keeps the robot class of 210328 Strange Robots as it was: each robot has its own width and height, antenna, colours drawn from a palette and eye size. What is new are mouths (smiling, sad or a flat line, opening into an oval when they speak), round or square glasses, growth and easing as the mouse comes near, paper-cut shadows, and a layer of speech bubbles that, when their turn comes, blow out one letter of WAGMI. The grid is eight robots across and ten down, one every hundred pixels, with a sine wave staggering each row up and down; around it an eighty-pixel black border carries THE HAMILY and a vertical WAGMI.

His handwritten signature sits in the lower left, a sequence of coordinates recorded in advance. The random seed is fixed at 42069 × 2 and the noise seed likewise; the 690 ERC-1155 editions have no hash of their own, so every edition opens on the same crowd of hams and the same wave.

The whole card (nine-second loop)

With the mouse still, an invisible cursor circles by itself. Recorded frame by frame from the card’s code; every edition shows this picture.

After the mouse leaves

When the mouse comes near, the hams around it grow and shake, shake harder while the button is held, and every ham within two hundred pixels blows a bubble. Two hundred frames after the mouse stops, the picture takes over: an invisible cursor circles the centre, so the card keeps moving even when left alone. S saves the current frame, H opens hamily.life, the space bar pauses, and on a phone it answers to touch.

What he wrote in the card’s description is a poem of three stanzas in English, from “Amidst the crowd, the hams lie low” to “With our crazed creativity on full display”, followed by three lines of instructions. The full text is in the original-text section below.

Three details of the same card, recorded frame by frame; nine-second loops.

The Hamily that season

A 6529 card carries a row of attributes on chain; this one reads Home: Hamily, Parent: Strange Robots, Sibling: Nobody, Secrets: Pochi’s gangs, with ham for food, rum for drink and water for element.

That season The Hamily was also releasing limited drops by community artists on Manifold: the first on 9 February, the second on 23 February and the third on 9 March, and the card came out between the second and the third. On 27 and 28 January he had made two drafts in his daily practice, 230127 H and 210328 Strange Robots - memecard.
