“Song of Distances” is a participatory and algorithmic web-based music composition based on ubiquitous computing. It focuses on the concept of compressed time and space by transforming the positioning information into audible events. Each login session represented as a node in the topographic coordinate by granting access to GPS data by the user. The system continuously calculates the session period and relative distances between the center and each node to trigger the music, while the orientation affects the direction of the sound in the spatial audio setting. This piece gradually evolves with crowd participation as a collective experience on the Internet.
The location data is streaming from Socket.io, osc and sync on Firebase.
Connects to the external media service when you play.
Open in a new tab ↗Instruction:
- Scan the QR code and authorize the positioning request to connect to the system.
- The topographic coordinate with a scanning radar shows the states and position of all connected sessions as nodes in real-time.
- If the user keeps the webpage open and move to a distant location, the system will indicate the displacement of the node; if the user closes the webpage, then the node will become offline.
- You can scan the QR code anywhere to reconnect to the system, which means you affect the music by means of mobility.
