“The End of the Maze”. A speaker stands before the future with no destination, is carried along with his companions, and is pushed into what he calls the lift of adulthood. He comes out the other side with the same hollow eyes as the people before him.
Majer
“Fisherman × Fisherman”. A poem in short lines in which a fisherman rows back toward the present while the past grows heavier, and ends on a saying about a sage who does not cling to things and moves with the world, while his mouth gives away something he cannot hide.
Transcription of “Searching”, in Chinese. The speaker has accidentally kicked his eyeballs far away and walked half the globe without finding them. People call him blind, but the light in his heart has not gone out. He keeps rolling his eyes further so that he can go on searching. The third line of the second stanza breaks off in the manuscript.
Transcription of “Half Past Four”, in Chinese. His mother says it is ten o’clock and time for bed. He shows her his watch and says it is only half past four, while his other hand keeps a tight hold on the toy box. Then, secretly, he turns his back-to-front watch round.
