## Yilan Festival: Illusions of Light and Shadow



Bringing together artists from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan, this collaborative project creates an immersive world of light and sound — a dreamlike fusion of the real and the virtual, woven from the threads of light, shadow, and memory.



How do light and memory leave unforgettable stories in each of us? As an original exhibition of the Yilan Zhongxing Cultural and Creative Park, the Image Festival harnesses the illusionary and surreal qualities of moving images to craft an otherworldly experience — one that transports viewers beyond reality and into the realm of dreams. It opens up a boundless space for creative imagination.



In 2023, under the theme Illusions of Light and Shadow, the festival invites everyone to immerse themselves in a world where memories and images interlace. Here, visuals are not merely vessels for storytelling; they are carriers of emotion. Through the seamless fusion of 5G technology and artistic expression, the exhibition integrates Yilan’s rich natural landscapes and cultural textures, creating a magical realm of light and shadow — breathing new life and perspective into the city.



Featuring artists from Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and beyond, this year’s Image Festival: Illusions of Light and Shadow breaks the boundaries between the virtual and the real through the integration of 5G technology.



The festival brings together a diverse group of visionary creators, including Hong Kong’s XCEPT team — known for leading trends in tech-based projection art — interdisciplinary Japanese artist Futa Kera, internationally acclaimed Indigenous Taiwanese artist An Sheng-Hui, and Taiwanese new media artist Cheyu Wu. Together, they present a series of immersive works and large-scale light sculpture performances that celebrate the beauty of audiovisual art.
